The Midwife's Apprentice
Karen Cushman (1995) , 122 pages
It was very thoughtful, and well written. It teaches you a lot about life in the 1500's. It was a bit sad in some parts, but very happy in the end. I really enjoyed it. A young homeless girl who is called Brat, is found in a dung heap by Jane the midwife. Brat (who is now called Beetle) is tormented and teased, and decides to run away from the unhappy village, along with her cat, Purr. They soon find a new home, and meet new friends there. They have many adventures, and soon find the true meaning of courage. Reviewed by Kate, Age 9
