Al Capone Does My Shirts
Gennifer Choldenko (2004) , 228 pages
Moose is twelve when he and his family move to Alcatraz. While it means a chance for his sister to get into a special school that may help her, Moose is not thrilled with the idea. He has to leave his friends and his baseball team behind. While Moose makes new friends with the other kids on the island, the warden's daughter Piper causes a lot of trouble for Moose. When Natalie is not accepted into the school, Moose's mother withdraws and leaves Moose responsible for Natalie. When Natalie accidently meets and makes friends with one of the prisoners, Moose must act quickly to keep her safe. Between Piper, his mother and Natalie, Moose has his hands full. This book won a 2005 Newbery Honor. Reviewed by Lisa Read the other reviews of this book
