After Tupac & D Foster
Jacqueline Woodson (2008) , 151 pages
For as long as she can remember it has been her and Neeka. Best friends since they were babies, they spend all their time together. When D shows up, their friendship grows to include D. They become "Three the Hard Way." But D's life is mostly a mystery and the girls are all too aware that their time together might not be for always. As the girls get older and their worlds get more complicated, they frame their lives around Tupac and his music. Tupac seems to speak to the desperation in so many of their lives. His death, following so soon after D's sudden departure seems like the abrupt end to their childhood. Reviewed by Lisa
