The Power of Play basics
It often seems that all children do is play. They play until they are big enough to really begin to do things. Play to a child is learning. It is not a distraction. It's not something they do to take up time. It's the child's life.
Now, more than ever, children are choosing TV, video games and the Internet over active play. The average American child spends several hours each day watching television; time which in previous years might have been devoted to physical pursuits. Active play is one way to prevent childhood obesity and other related medical conditions. Also, outdoor play gives children contact with nature and teaches them about the environment in which they live.
Fun and games encourage your child's development and help him or her learn about the world. Whether your child loves playing alone or with a group, indoors or outside, this page is packed with inspirational ideas.
