Bettina Valentino loves art. But she does not love the art teacher at Bayside Preparatory School. So when a new teacher arrives, Bettina is thrilled. Mr. Peppard (or Mr. Popart as he prefers to be called) is a real character. He wears fabulous but unexpected, clothes. He does not wear shoes. And he is ready to teach his classes all about real art. It starts with rock art on the walls and only gets better from there. But snooty Maxine Rattles does not like Mr. Popart. Soon Maxine's mom and dad are trying to get rid of Mr. Popart! If that happens, Bettina will just die. How can the best thing to ever happen to Bayside disappear just like that? Librarian review

You may think you see a cardboard box, but this rabbit is not fooled. It knows that a box can turn into anything you can imagine, from a racecar to a robot. Flawless line drawings and simple, repetitive text makes this a great book for preschoolers, while the more subtle message (that imagination can take you anywhere) will resonate with older kids. What if instead of fancy ballgowns or graceful dancing, princesses were judged by their hair? This book tells a story that is similar to Cinderella, but the courtier with the best hair will become ruler of the kingdom! What's even better than the story, though, is the amazing collage art. The artist brings all kinds of crazy stuff together to make these ladies' elaborate hair-do's. There's silverware, chairs, flowers, checker boards, clocks, and globes, all in their hair! This book is really fun to look at and you could even play a game of "I spy" with all the crazy stuff in the pictures. Librarian review

Kari is shocked by a rude comment made by a man painting at an easel in her local art museum. When she goes to a London museum she sees the same man, but in disguise, painting there too. He's trying hard to hide what it is he's painting and that, combined with the disguise, makes Kari suspicious. What is he painting? Could he be forging one of Rembrandt's paintings? Kari and her friend Lucas decide to solve the mystery and it takes them from Minneapolis to London to Paris and Amsterdam. While the adults are skeptical at first, this mystery turns out to be both serious and dangerous. The best part is, it gets solved by kids!

In this third installment from the author of Chasing Vermeer, Calder gets the opportunity to travel with his dad to Oxford, England. When he disappears into thin air, Calder's dad invites Tommy, Petra, and Mrs. Sharpe to come to England to help find him. Without Calder to keep the peace, Tommy and Petra must learn to get along so they can save their friend. This is a terrific adventure story that again combines elements of art, numbers, language and intrigue.

This is one of my favorite books ever! Blue Balliet is a great author. This books go from one thing to another. What happens when Calder and the Calder sculpture disappear? Who solves the mystery? READ IT!

This book was pretty good. It was kind of hard to follow, but besides that is was good. It was a mystery book, so for those who don't like having to keep info about the book in your head this wouldn't be the book for you.

Faces are everywhere. If you look carefully you can find faces in some very unexpected places. This book contains photographs of everyday objects that look like they have a face on them. What parts of a face can you find? Can you guess what object makes the face in the picture? The answers are below the pictures in small print. This is a great book to get the imagination going. Try to make faces out of objects on your own. Librarian review

Cow has lost her moo and wonders if any of the other animals have it. The ending could be viewed as predictable, but the fun is getting there and making lots of animal noises. Denise Fleming shows her great sense of the absurd in this title. The book is the author's nod to the artist Vincent van Gogh who inspires her. You can see the painting "Starry Night" on the inside cover. Cow is set in a van Gogh landscape and on subsequent pages you will see the open-air artist himself, Vincent van Gogh, in silhouette in the background. Librarian review
