It was very thoughtful, and well written. It teaches you a lot about life in the 1500's. It was a bit sad in some parts, but very happy in the end. I really enjoyed it. A young homeless girl who is called Brat, is found in a dung heap by Jane the midwife. Brat (who is now called Beetle) is tormented and teased, and decides to run away from the unhappy village, along with her cat, Purr. They soon find a new home, and meet new friends there. They have many adventures, and soon find the true meaning of courage.

This is a rich and vibrant picture-book biography about the life of author Gabriel García Márquez. Monica Brown captures the life of this famous Nobel Prize winning author from his childhood in northern Columbia to his adult life as he metamorphoses from a dreamer into a professional storyteller. The illustrations by the Pura Belpré illustrator award-winner Raúl Colón, are as imaginative as García Márquez' stories and add fluidity to the already beautifully-written text. The book is a welcomed addition to the multicultural literary community.

Nelly is a sniggler. Do you know what a sniggler is? It's a person who catches eels! In medieval times children did all sorts of jobs called very different things than they are today. Learn about tanners, villeins, and varlets. See how people lived in all different classes of medieval society and who could be friends with whom. Told in monologues from the children's perspectives, this is a really unique look at medieval times. The detailed illustrations are in the style of illuminated manuscripts.
