From acclaimed author Roddy Doyle comes a lovely and deceptively simple story about family, love, life, death, and the power of memory. While this book is a short, quick read, it holds an unforgettable message that is well worth sharing with the entire family. This honest multigenerational story focuses on twelve-year old Mary, a sassy but smart preteen, her mother Scarlett, who ends every sentence with an exclamation point, her grandmother Emer, who is slowly fading in her hospital bed, and Emer's mother Tansey, a ghost who died young. Tansey has come back to help Emer cross over, and Mary and Scarlett come along for the ride on a midnight road trip into the past that helps Emer come to terms with her long life, and ultimately, with her death. By turns funny, touching, heartbreaking, and uplifting, this book is a standout for its keen characterization, snappy dialogue (complete with Irish dialect and nuances), and its universal message of the importance of family and memories in shaping our personalities and our lives. What would you do if you saw a dog that was being mistreated? One morning on the way to school, sixth-grader Rusty sees a German Shepherd Dog chained outside in icy weather without shelter, food and water. Rusty worries about the dog all day. When his teacher challenges him and his classmates to think of a problem each of them can personally solve, Rusty decides his project will be helping the dog. He begins by sneaking food to the dog and taking photos every day to document the neglect so the Animal Control officer can intervene. But when the ghost of a collie appears to Rusty, and he discovers the German Shepherd has been injured, he knows he has to protect the dog now. With the help of his best friend Andrew, he rescues the dog and gives it a home in their old fort. But is it rescuing or stealing? And why does the ghost dog keep showing up? When the dog's owner finds out Rusty has the dog, both he and the dog are in danger. Librarian review

I liked it so much that I would read a million books written by that author. This book has 7 short stories in it and one of my favorite is "The House That Screamed", first the blender, then the basement sink and the upstairs shower all had spooky messages to leave and when they did leave, the house burnt down.

What will they do with the ghost in the bathroom of a school? Ivy and Bean are best friends. Ivy discovered a little cloud in the bathroom. Then she told Bean, Emma and Zuzu that she saw a ghost in the bathroom. Next they looked in the bathroom they didn't see the ghost. But Bean still believed her. They made a potion to make ghost go away. Did the ghost go away? This book is mostly about two friends named Ivy and Bean working together to make their fears go back to the grave. I love this book because it is about a ghost in the bathroom and I like ghosts. I recommend this book for people who like potions and ghosts.

All grumpy Mr. Ignatius Grumply wanted was a quiet house to write in. After all, his book is way overdue. He needs the quiet for inspiration. Unfortunately, 43 Cemetery Road is far from empty or quiet. Mr. Grumply did not read the contract carefully. If he had, he would have known the house came with at least 1 live little boy and 1 cat. 11 year-old Seymour is no happier about the situation then Mr. Grumply. But the person who is perhaps least happy about Mr. Grumply moving in is the ghost, Olive. Can she and Seymour convince Mr. Grumply to leave? Librarian review
