The last thing Bob wanted was to move to a creaky old house at the very end of town. At least they have an indoor bathroom. They also have a crazy neighbor. If their house was creaky, Mrs. Dowdel was about ready to fall over. Then there is Mrs. Dowdel herself. While Bob tries to stay as far away as possible, his youngest sister falls in love with Mrs. Dowdel. Soon she is wandering around acting as strange as Mrs. Dowdel. But then Bob finds himself hog tied in Mrs. Dowdel's outhouse. Rather than make a fuss, Mrs. Dowdel helps him down, and helps him get even. As the holidays approach, Bob and his family begin to form a different picture of crazy old Mrs. Dowdel and of the town itself.

Purebred dogs and mutts gather together in a dark abandoned building for the first annual meeting of WOOF (Words of Our Friends). Old, gray Beauregard calls the meeting to order. He explains how dogs have been working for years to promote a worldwide understanding that dogs actually have advanced vocabularies and are accomplished storytellers. WOOF members have collected vital stories from dogs across the world and throughout history and are ready to share some of them. On this eventful night, they tell 11 stories including: Abu, the dog who ruled Egypt; Dawg, a Colorado gold miner; Marcus, survivor of Pompeii; Bo, who foiled a bank robber; and Tidbit, a Grand Ole Opry singer.

Sal and Frankie have done it all. Now they're going to try to do nothing. But Frankie can't quite do nothing because if he imagines he's a statue, he also imagines pigeons all over him. If Frankie imagines he's the Empire State Building, he imagines King Kong climbing up him and he just has to react! Finally, the boys realize that even when you're doing nothing, you have to do something because you're always breathing! Hilarious illustrations accompany the silly things Sal and Frankie try in this book.
