I learned that the parrot fish will oozes a colorless liquid to protect itself from predators like the eel when it sleeps. This liquid oozes from the body and it is like plastic wrap pretty awesome. The reef is made up of many small polyps the size of a grain of rice so it is alive. The largest reef is found in Australia it's called the Great Barrier Reef I would like to see it some day.

Long ago in Japan, a wise man lived high on a hill overlooking the sea. Ojiison (grandfather) lived simply, growing rice for the village. One day, Ojiison felt an earthquake. It was a small one, and most of the village ignored it. But Ojiison looked out to sea. He saw the ocean racing away from the land. Ojiison knew that meant only one thing, monster wave. While the villagers played on the beach, Ojiison tried desperately to think of a way to save them from the tsunami. Finally, he sets fire to the rice field. Will that be enough to bring the villagers away from the beach to safety? Librarian review

What an enchanting wordless book this is! A little girl goes to the beach with her mother. The story focuses on the interplay between the little girl and the sea wave as it comes and goes. At first she is tentative approaching the wave and as she becomes more comfortable, she even sticks out her tongue when the wave becomes bigger. Although it overcomes her, it leaves behind the gift of seashells. Accompanying the girl is a flock of sea gulls who mirror the girl's action. A book to read with your eyes and tell the story with your voice! Librarian review

A delightful story of a little girl and her day at the sea told through illustrations. Her curiosity about the sea's waves takes her through a variety of feelings: excitement, joy, playfulness, hesitation, and gratitude. A simple story with simple drawings and simple message!

Jacques Cousteau is famous for his undersea movies. This story tells how Cousteau invented equipment to help him breathe underwater and discover the magical world under the sea. Over time, humans began to pollute the sea, so Cousteau set out to show them the beauty they were destroying and how they could fix it. Told in simple text with gorgeous illustrations, this is a terrific introduction to Cousteau's world. Pair the book with one of Cousteau's documentaries from the library collection! Librarian review

When a marlin scares away a school of sardines, one little sardine is left behind. As he looks for his school, he meets many other creatures of the deep: crayfish, barnacles, sea anemones, octopus, blowfish, and many many more. This tale about ocean life is also a poem, illustrated with beautiful paintings full of tiny details. Librarian review
