The school year is winding down, which means it's almost our favorite time of year...Summer of Adventure! Our fabulous, fun and free summer reading program is a great way to keep kids busy and engaged all summer long. Research shows that during the summer months, while not in school, students who lack access to learning opportunities lose anywhere between 1-3 months of reading and math skills. This phenomenon is called summer learning loss or summer slide, and kids who participate in a library summer reading program can counteract its effects.
Denver Public Library's Summer of Adventure program runs from May 31-August 10 and is open to kids aged birth-12th grade. Participants are invited to read, make and explore what they're good at and try new things too. Kids get a prize when they start the program and when they finish, and everyone registered in the program is entered into weekly drawings to win tickets to Elitch Gardens, the Denver Zoo and more awesome places!
